WOMEN INSPIRING WOMEN TO ENGAGE WITH PUBLIC LANDS AND TRAILS AS ADVENTURERS, STEWARDS, AND LEADERS

News and Events

Join the Florida Trail Association in maintaining the Florida Trail along the beautiful Kissimmee River an exciting Women’s Work Party in collaboration with Wild East WomenGirls Who Hike FL & Latinxhikers!

Following the Kissimmee River floodplain, we will be clearing a scenic section of the Florida Trail and passing through a mix of levees, shady woods, river views, open prairies, and cattle ranches.

Trail work will take place on Saturday, December 12th and Sunday, December 13th and will include clearing the corridor using hand tools (hand saws and loppers) and brushcutters. Friday, December 11th will be an arrival day to set up camp and enjoy dinner with the crew. An afternoon ecotour of the Kissimmee River will also be available for those who are able to arrive early on the 11th (more details provided in the link below). No previous trail maintenance experience is required.

If you’d like to participate in this collaborative work party, please complete this interest form to receive a registration link!

NEW PODCAST MINISERIES HIGHLIGHTS WOMEN VOICES OF THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL

This new podcast miniseries will bring a new focus to the thousands of women who have built, hiked on and been inspired by the Appalachian Trail (A.T.). “Where We Walk: Stories of the Appalachian Trail,” is a special six-part series developed by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) in collaboration with She Explores Podcast and made possible with a grant from REI. This groundbreaking miniseries explores the women who have helped make the Trail what it is today, as well as those who are shaping its future.

You can experience “Where We Walk” starting on September 21 by subscribing to She Explores Podcast on Apple PodcastsSpotify, Stitcher or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Join us for a DIY day of service and a virtual happy hour with holiday cheer on December 6th from 4:30-5:30 pm EST!

It’s easy: choose a conservation area nearby to improve through trail maintenance, picking up trash/recycling, removing invasive plants, etc. and then cozy up with a hot toddy or warm beverage of your choice, log onto the virtual happy hour and share your experience! Tag us if you’d like to share your service project and we will feature you on our Instagram. ✨☕️ ❄️ 🌲
